At The Foundation, we spend a lot of time on mindset. And a big part of mindset is finding your “why”. Why would anyone leave a cozy 9-5 job and give up financial security to start a business? For starters, I’m convinced the only sure way to make it big and build a significant amount of wealth is to be an entrepreneur. A very successful corporate exec once told me, “you don’t work your way up the corporate ladder without a lot of luck.” While I can assure you it wasn’t just luck in his case, I also agree with the saying, “luck is where preparation meets opportunity”. And the quickest, most sure way to opportunity is to find and create your own.
So here’s the main part of my “Why” that I keep on my desktop. I don’t read it every day, but I read it frequently and I do think about it every day:
I want financial independence and freedom. I want to be able to spend more time with my friends and family. I want to be a pillar in their lives. I want to be able to travel and see the world. I want more time to learn. I want more time to volunteer and more money to donate to good causes. Ultimately, I want to make way more money than I need to be happy so I can spend it on freeing and rehabilitating modern day slaves. I also want to use my skills as an entrepreneur to help eradicate modern day slavery. I want to make the world a better place. I’ve been given so much. I want to race to give way more than I’ve received.
